Boldrewood Campus, University of Southampton

Southampton

Hughes and Salvidge undertook this high-profile project at the University of Southampton, demolition and asbestos removal of Building 62, a former biomedical facility.

This Hampshire demolition project involved extensive asbestos removal and a package of enabling works including sheet piling and land drainage to prepare for a new build. Following asbestos removal, we undertook the demolition of this 8-storey building, which included 2 basement levels, conducting the breakout of the basements, crushing of concrete and backfill of the basements.

We worked adjacent to a live university campus throughout the duration of the works, which required stringent methods to minimise disruption and noise. Dust and vibration were all constantly monitored to ensure students and staff were not disturbed. The campus was surrounded by private residents who were kept informed of the works and progress via hand delivered information leaflets and monthly resident meetings. Contact details for our Head Office and Site Management were included in the leaflets and posted at the boundary of the site for the public to contact us with any queries or issues.

The university was open as usual throughout our works and the project was completed to the full satisfaction of the client and all key stakeholders.

Boldrewood Campus was a large, local project for the Hughes and Salvidge team and led to further projects within the University and Education sectors, coming our way.
