Land Remediation

When planning to re-use or redevelop land after demolition, it is essential to restore land to an acceptable condition by resolving or treating problems caused by contamination in soil and water.

Removing contaminants from land DURING DEMOLITION

Land remediation deals with the removal of pollution or contaminants from environmental media such as soil, groundwater, sediment, or surface water for the general protection of human health and the environment or from a brownfield site intended for redevelopment.

It plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and future potential of land. Demolition can unearth buried contaminants like asbestos, lead, petroleum products, or industrial chemicals which can pose a risk to public health and the environment. As part of our complete demolition solution, we are able to assess and remove the risk of environmental contamination.

Starting a DEMOLITION project that requires land remediation?

Our team of demolition specialists have a wealth of experience in making land safe and usable again. We believe in providing the safest, most practical and cost-effective solution for demolition and reusing land.

As longstanding members of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC), we are dedicated to completing demolition projects responsibly and to the highest standards.

Environmental remediation removes or treats the risk of contaminants, protecting people and the environment from potential harm.

By cleaning up contaminated land, we can unlock its full potential for future developments that will benefit communities and economies, such as housing, parks or commercial spaces.

Responsible land remediation practices contribute towards a more sustainable future, preventing pollution and restoring natural ecosystems.

What others had to say about our complete demolition solution.

"The works were carried out in a professional, efficient and competent manner. I would highly recommend Hughes & Salvidge for similar works." Project Manager at Balfour Beatty

"Myself and the Welsh Government were very happy with how the job progressed and the service we received. The site was always in good order and there were very little complaints received. The job overran the original programme but we were kept well informed of this and there was no impact to the client." Project Manager at Welsh Government.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank one and all at Hughes and Salvidge, who were on site and also those working behind the scenes, who contributed to a flawless demolition. All my communications with your organisation have been handled in an exigent and very professional manner" Project Manager at James Knight of Mayfair.

"We’re reliable, friendly and trustworthy, providing knowledge and reassurance at all times. We empower our partners to make informed decisions through jargon-free communication. Our friends know that no demolition project is insurmountable for us and we always make the difficult, look easy“

All activities undertaken by Hughes and Salvidge will be in accordance with the approved programme of work, phased operations and safe demolition techniques and the activities will be planned and undertaken in line with the Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Project Health and Safety Plan and Environmental Plan.

We will conduct thorough evaluations to identify the presence and extent of any contaminants. This could include a review of historical land use, visual inspections and taking soil and water samples for testing and analysis.

Developing a Remediation Plan

Based on the findings of the site assessment, our specialists will develop a detailed remediation plan. This plan will outline the specific steps required to remove or reduce the presence of contaminants, whilst adhering to all environmental regulations.

The next step is for our highly trained operatives to carry out the work involved in restoring the land. Depending on the type and level of land contamination, different remediation methods will be employed. This could include excavation and removal, soil treatment or containment.

Validation and Verification

Once the remediation work is complete, the site will undergo final testing. This ensures that contamination levels have been reduced to acceptable standards for the intended future use of the land. This may involve additional sampling and analysis of soil and water.

Reporting and Documentation

Throughout the land remediation process, we will keep detailed records of all of our activities, including site assessments, remediation plans and validation testing results. This documentation is crucial for demonstrating compliance with regulations.
