Hughes and Salvidge were appointed by Laing O’Rourke as the Demolition Subcontractor for a variety of works at Manchester Airport Terminal 2.
Our previous experience at London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports supported our tender for the demolition works in Manchester and provided Laing O’Rourke with the knowledge that the project was in safe, expert hands.
The scope of works ranged from stripping out of buildings, separation works to the West Pier, demolition of the West Pier and node buildings, demolition of the bussing area and the trolley area and Terminal 2’s west elevation, demolition of the forecourt ramp sections and the clearing away of all debris and crushing of concrete and hardcore for re-use.
The programme of works lasted 30 weeks and aspects of the project were undertaken at night as well as during the day in order to navigate Airport operations, ensure no disruptions and ensure the programme was met.
The project was undertaken alongside normal working Airport operations and in close proximity to operational airside roads, stands and taxiways. Other required works included working at height, hot works and craning/lifting. To ensure that our operations caused minimal to zero disruptions, we undertook the majority of craning at night, utilising the day to cut and remove from site the items that had been craned down the night before.
During the project, the Hughes and Salvidge Manchester Airport team were awarded the Star Players Reward and Recognition Certificate and Trophy for their work associated with the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme, a £1 billion investment to transform Manchester Airport into a world class operation.
The project was completed to the full satisfaction of the client and the Manchester Airport team with no disruptions to Airport operations throughout the entirety of the project.
