Unitair, Feltham

West London

Hughes and Salvidge successfully tendered for the role of Principal Contractor for the demolition works at Unitair, Feltham, in 2012.

The project consisted of large steel, brick, concrete and masonry structures with steel trusses and asbestos cement roof sheeting. The main works on this project consisted of the removal of asbestos cement based material from the various buildings and the demolition of this range of buildings including slab and foundation removal and crushing all suitable materials.

The London demolition site was located near to commercial premises as well as other occupied structures therefore all vehicle movements were strictly monitored alongside noise, vibration and dust monitoring. We communicated our activities to tenants and local businesses regularly, providing them with contact details for our Project team and Head Office for any queries.

Although not airside, the site was also within the boundary of Heathrow Airport. To pre-empt any possible issues arising with BAA and the airport, we ensured all staff on site had worked airside previously and the works were treated in the manner required airside thus eliminating risk of disruption to airport activities.

Our Project Manager, Wayne Jeves, was awarded the Considerate Contractors' Certificate of Compliance for this project.
