Lee On Solent, Hampshire
Homes and Communities Agency
Following a competitive pre-qualification and tender process, we were successful in securing the demolition works at HMS Daedalus in Lee On Solent through the Homes and Communities Agency.
Hughes and Salvidge were appointed to the role of Principal Contractor for demolition works at HMS Daedalus, Broom Way, Lee on Solent in early 2014.
The main works consisted of the removal of all asbestos containing materials from the existing structures, a comprehensive soft strip of the buildings, the removal of all existing structures, foundations, drainage and redundant services, concrete slabs and external hardstand areas together with the crushing and stockpiling of all resultant arisings. All other arisings waste materials arising from the asbestos removal and demolition works were disposed of to an appropriate licensed facility.
The site was located within a secure area located adjacent to an existing airfield therefore incredible care was taken with regards to securing any loose debris. Situated adjacent to residential properties, we conducted a leaflet drop to residents to inform them of the work activities and working days/hours. We also provided contact details for any queries. Within the airfield boundary, there were also occupied buildings. We established communication lines between ourselves, client and the occupants in order to maintain an open dialogue regarding the works, including any issues or queries from the tenants.
The Daedalus Waterfront site has been identified as an Enterprise Zone and will provide both housing and business opportunities for the local area.
