Former Clariant (UK) Facility, Leeds

Hughes and Salvidge were appointed to conduct the demolition works at the former Clariant UK distribution and manufacturing facility in Leeds.

The site comprised a number of 4- and 5-storey buildings with basements, a large high-bay warehouse complex with a deep basement, 6 semi-detached properties, 2 waste water treatment plants, underground storage and reservoirs, a number of smaller single storey buildings and 2 building footprints/basements left from previous demolition works.

We undertook the removal of all asbestos containing materials from the existing buildings/structures, a comprehensive soft strip of the buildings and the demolition of all existing structures and foundations. We also removed the extensive concrete slabs and external hardstand areas and crushed and stockpiled all resultant brickwork, concrete and hard inert arisings. We used large amounts to backfill and level the site, retaining our excellent recycling rate.

This was the first of two Clariant UK projects that Hughes and Salvidge conducted for Harrow Estates, completing the decommissioning and demolition of the Pontypridd site the following year. Our award of the Pontypridd project was a result of our work in Leeds and impressing Harrow Estates through the competitive tender process.

The project was delivered on time, on budget and to complete satisfaction of the client.
