Colt International, Havant

Hampshire

In close proximity to operational businesses

96% on target recycling rate for this project

Hughes and Salvidge won a competitive tender process to demolish the Colt International site in Havant, Hampshire.

The project client was Homes England, who were represented on this project by Campbell Reith.

The Colt International site in Havant was a mixed-use office & industrial site. The site consisted of a main five-storey office block, a secondary four-storey office block, a factory area, and a storage/distribution area at the rear of the site. A small car park was present to the front of the site, whilst a larger car park was present to the rear of the site.

Our scope of works involved asbestos removal from all buildings, before soft-stripping of the buildings took place. Once the soft-strip was complete, all buildings were then demolished to slab level, before foundations, drainage and redundant services, concrete slabs and external hardstand areas were also removed. All resultant brickwork, concrete and hard inert arisings were crushed and stockpiled on site. Any recyclable materials were reclaimed and sent to respective recycling facilities. We were on target, reaching a recycling rate of 96% on this project. All waste materials arising from the asbestos removal or demolition works were sent via licenced carriers to licenced facilities for further processing.

Other businesses, footpaths and live roadways were in close proximity to the site, so the site was securely fenced around its entire perimeter. Dust, noise and vibration were also monitored during all phases of our works to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding businesses and the general public. A traffic management plan was also strictly adhered to, and wheel cleaning facilities put in place, to minimise inconvenience or disruption to the local area.

Strong communication chains were maintained throughout the project with the client and surrounding businesses to ensure no complaints. Site team contact details were also clearly displayed in case the general public needed to contact site.
