Careers In Demolition: How We Highlight Our Industry
15th August 2025
With our business continuing to expand at pace, we are proud to play our part in future-proofing our industry. Corporate Social Responsibility is high on our agenda at Hughes and Salvidge, and through our three initiatives (Safe Hands, Helping Hands and Green Hands) supporting the communities we work in, and protecting the environment and our surroundings, are integral parts of our operation.
One key area of focus is showcasing the exciting career opportunities within not only our industry, but also the wider construction sector. We regularly attend careers fairs and workshops, whilst hosting work experience for interested students provides hands on experience and exposure across our businesses.
This summer we were invited to attend a Career Spotlight Day and a Work Experience Fair to highlight potential opportunities for the students.
Career Spotlight
Through our on-going works across the City of London, we were asked if we could spend a day at a school local to our Grahame Park project to shine some light on the world of demolition. This event was held across all years of the secondary school, with a wide variety of businesses and roles on show.
With our works in close proximity, we were also able to offer multiple groups of students the chance to visit our site and see the works in action. Thanks to our exemplary SHEQ set up on-site, we were able to facilitate students across 5 different secondary school class groups, over 2 days. Thanks to everyone who helped organise the successful visits, and to our site team for creating such a safe environment for them whilst visiting!
Work Experience Fair
We were proud to attend the URBOND’s work experience fair in June, through our Helping Hands Initiative. Supported by other fantastic local business, we provided key insights into our business and hope many young people will get vital work experience over the summer.
Future events
As we fly through the second half of 2025, we still have various exciting events to host/attend. In October we have our annual trip to the CEMAST college on the south coast to attend the iConstruct conference. This will allow us to again highlight the careers in the industry to a wide range of children at school leaving ages.
Throughout the year we have also continued to make charitable donations and have even worked with frameworks that have donated to charities, such as Efficiency East Midlands (EEM).
We will continue to do support causes up and down the country to hopefully create pathways for the next generation to continue to lead our industry.
