Hughes and Salvidge Pair Complete Great South Run

Community projects

Hughes and Salvidge often talk about being active in our local community, but that was taken very literally by two members of the team recently who completed an arduous – although supposedly also enjoyable – ten-mile run in Portsmouth.

It plays a significant role in sustainable development, as decommissioning ensures the safe disposal of obsolete infrastructure, reduces environmental impact, and paves the way for new projects. This article explores the essence of decommissioning, its importance, and its impact on the construction/demolition landscape in the United Kingdom.

The Great South Run is an annual event that has taken place since 1990 – and been held in Portsmouth since 1991, after the inaugural race took place in Southampton. The combination of elite-level athletes, fundraisers, and fun runners makes for a fantastic party atmosphere on the seafront and along the whole route – and this year was no exception.

Business Development Executive Will Spong and Accounts Assistant Christina Pilichos channelled their inner Mo Farah/Paula Radcliffe/Forrest Gump (delete as appropriate) to complete the Great South Run and it sounds like they had a good time doing so.

Will was running for a local cause, close to the hearts of many: https://gofund.me/f066441d

He said “It was another amazing experience to complete the Great South Run. The weather was perfect and the crowds came out in force and were really supportive. It was another great advert for the City and I was really happy to be part of it again.” If you hadn’t guessed, this was not Will’s first time taking part in this particular event, but it was definitely his fastest, completing the course in 1:24:53!

Christina added “This was my first GSR and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The atmosphere from start to finish was very motivational and supportive from the locals of Portsmouth.

“The route itself was fantastic, from starting off at the beach and then running through the city centre and into the Historic Dockyard and Naval Base, it’s nice being able to take those sights in while running as it takes your mind slightly off the distance ahead.

“The course is also very flat so that itself is a massive bonus. For me this was my first race in 2 years so I was delighted with my time of 1:26:29, it’s given me my running mojo back again and hopefully if I do GSR 24 I can beat my time!”

Congratulations to both of you on a fantastic achievement!
