Pompey De-Lighted Ahead of South Coast Derby

Hughes and Salvidge have completed a second stage of work dismantling and removing two more floodlights at Portsmouth Football Club’s Fratton Park stadium, ahead of the club's Carabao Cup clash with local rivals Southampton.

After another contractor had removed the lamps from the now redundant floodlights, we removed the floodlight structures situated between the South Stand and Fratton End and between the North Stand and Milton End of the ground.

Two qualified and trained Hughes and Salvidge operatives
worked from a mobile platform and completed the dismantling of each of the two
floodlights in two cutting and lifting stages.

We were assisted in the site operations by a 250-tonne crane
and a slinger and lift supervisor to ensure each removed section of the floodlight
was safely manoeuvred to the designated lay-down zone in a segregated section
of the stadium’s North Stand Car Park.

These sections were then further processed by a 9-tonne
excavator with hydraulic sheer before removal to a recycling plant.

The above phase of work came after we dismantled the
floodlight between the Fratton End and North Stand in June ahead of its
re-erection in the North Stand car park.

This floodlight will be kept as a permanent memento that Fratton
Park hosted the first floodlit football match in the English Football League in
February, 1956 between Portsmouth and Newcastle United.

The fourth and final floodlight will be removed in a third
phase of work in the coming weeks.
