Demolition of Former Ford Transit Site Underway

Hughes and Salvidge continues to be the company of choice for the region’s largest decommissioning projects after we were appointed to demolish the old Ford Transit Plant in Swaythling.

The iconic site in north Southampton, which after originally opening in 1972, employed over 4,000 people and produced more than 2.2 million Transit vans, up until its closure two years ago.

Following the decision to relocate the Transit plant to Turkey, Hughes and Salvidge was earlier this summer given responsibility for demolishing down the giant factory and various surrounding buildings.

Work is progressing nicely and as you can see, the skeleton of the main paint shop building has now been exposed.

We anticipate that full demolition of the site will be completed by the beginning of next year.

Ford has retained a presence in the city after creating a new vehicle refurbishment centre on a different part of the site and a new distribution centre is also set to open in the docks.

This is the latest high-profile addition to our growing portfolio of demanding demolition undertakings.

If you have demolition requirements of your own then please pick up the phone or make a quick online enquiry today.
